Green School Water Survey:

 The Green School’s Committee would like to thank the parents of 1^st and 4^th class for completing our household water usage questionnaire. The results are very interesting and we show them below. The Green School’s Committee have completed our submission for a Green Flag on the theme of water and we are expecting a visit shortly from An Taisce. Lets hope they’ll be impressed with our work.

 Water Questionnaire Results (1^st-4^th class)

1. 21% of household receive their water from the local authority.

2. 79% of households surveyed have their own well.

3. 88% surveyed replied that they make a conscious effort to conserve water.

4. Only 2% of households have dripping or leaking taps.

5. 27% said that they had a water filtering system.

6. Just 7% drink bottled water only, 40% drink tap water only and 53% drink both.

7. 28% of people surveyed leave the tap running when brushing their teeth.

8. 86% are happy with the quality of their water.

9. 79% were lucky enough to have water during the “big freeze” in December 2010.

10. 46% of those surveyed were aware that we were making a submission for a third Green Flag- hopefully that number has increased now!

11. 29% of households boil their kettle 4 times or less per day. 58% of households boil their kettle 8 times or less per day. 13% of households boil their kettle boil their kettle more than 8 times per day.

12. 51% of homes use an immersion heater.

13. 28% of households mainly bath while 72% of households mainly shower.

14. Just 37% of households agree with the introduction of a household water charge.

 We hope that all households will find theses results interesting.
