The Harvest Is In;

Green Schools

Everything is blooming in the school garden. Already, we have harvested our early lettuce, rhubarb and strawberries. The children took home some samples to eat. As part of our Incredible Edibles Project, the children cooked a meal at home for their parents. The results were very appetising.

We continue to feed our school worms on the tasty meal plan arranged by Mr O Connell. Without Ed Kenneally's care and attention the worms would not be as healthy as they are. The Green School's Committee have put up posters around the school to encourage the pupils and teachers to conserve water. This is the theme for our next Green School's flag. We have put a water meter on the pump to monitor water usage. A Green School's Co- ordinator visited the school and was very encouraged by our efforts.
We continue to recycle our waste fruit and vegetable (peelings and cores). Our well trained worms are wonderful at turning all the waste into beautiful black compost and powerful liquid fertiliser. Our worms rock! Next term we will be electing our Green School's Committee. We have achieved two green flags to date thanks to the great work of Miss Mulcahy and Miss Vaughan. Every class has an energy monitor. They do wonderful work to help the school conserve energy by turning off lights and keeping doors closed. Well done everyone.

All classes were lucky enough to attend the Minibeasts Presentation on Friday 4th Febuary 2011. The presentaton was interesting and even a little bit 'creepy' at times!!!!!!!
